What is Garoful

Garoful is a Dalmatian word for carnation. The formal name dianthus is  derived from the Ancient Greek words for divine ('dios') and flower ('anthos'). This is why carnations are classed as the 'flower of the gods'. Since Long Island is the place where the sky and sea meet, the carnation or our garoful is the heavenly flower in that sense to express love, devotion, distinction and fascination.

Fresh & Simple

Garoful is located in the heart of the old place of Sali, where you can enjoy traditional food with a modern accent just a few steps from the sea. The restaurant concept is based on innovative dishes to connect Mediterranean cuisine with the whole world.
We opened Garoful in July of 2021 inspired by the environment and natural beauty of Dugi otok. Our vision strives to maintain the tradition of the previous restaurant in the same location which was the first and oldest on the island, opened in 1974.
After almost 5 decades now in a new guise 'flower of the gods' seeks to express passion through the food and make a difference through the Cookhouse & Bar Garoful. Enjoy  the magical view just a few meters from the sea and the harbor which can accommodate more than 80 boats and sailboats.

  • Shark fillet marinated in dessert wine and sage (couscous, zucchini and fennel chateney)

  • Fish stew (cleaned fish, mussels, shrimps, clams) with grilled polenta

  • Fish platter (sea bass, tuna, squid, fritto misto, mussels, shrimps, grilled vegetables)

MEAT

  • Beefsteak (zucchini and potato puree, demi glace, fried gnocchi)
